The Human and Economic Burden of Cancer

In 2009, an estimated 1,479,350 Americans will be diagnosed with cancer, and 562,340 will die from the disease. Billions of dollars are spent on health care costs each year by individuals, the health care industry, and federal, state, and local governments. Cancer has emotional and physical costs as well.
